• April 2, 2016 is Worldwide Autism Awareness Day.  On that day in 101 countries over 8, 400 landmarks and buildings (including the International Space Station) will "Light It Up blue" for Autism Awareness by shining blue lights on many different monuments and famous buildings.

Current incidence numbers indicate that 1/66 children may have Autism. Many families in our district have been impacted by the disability. On Wednesday (3/30) we had a Parent Education Workshop to celebrate "Light It Up Blue". Children and their families were invited to attend to learn more about Autism.

We were very excited to have nearly 75 attendees from our school community.  Parents rotated through different informational sessions (presented by School Psychologists, Speech/Language Specialists, Special Education Teachers and the SELPA Program Specialist for Autism) while their children did a variety of activities, including an obstacle course designed by our Occupational Therapists.

At the end of the event our students sang an original song titled "Light It Up Blue" for their families. We were happy to show our support for our Alisal students and families and share in this event with them!
