Alisal Union School District Announcements

  • To All Alisal USD families

The air quality in our area is currently marked as "orange" or "unhealthy for sensitive groups" due to wildfires located far north of us. In response to these conditions, we have implemented our Big Five: Shelter in Place protocol to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

Big Five: Shelter in Place Protocol:

During a Shelter in Place event, our primary goal is to minimize exposure to poor air quality and provide a safe environment for all students and staff. Here are the key measures we will be implementing:

Sensitive Individuals: avoid vigorous outdoor activities

Limiting Physical Activity: To reduce the intake of outdoor air pollutants, we will limit physical activity for students. Teachers will ensure that classroom activities are adjusted accordingly.

Minimizing Door Openings: We will make every effort to minimize the opening and closing of doors throughout the day to prevent outdoor air from entering the building.

    Continuation of Classroom Instruction:

We want to emphasize that regular classroom instruction will continue during the Shelter in Place period.

Why School is the Best Place:

We understand that you may have concerns about sending your child to school on days with poor air quality. However, we believe that schools are the best place for students in such conditions for several reasons:

Supervision: Our staff is well-trained to handle Shelter in Place situations, ensuring your child's safety at all times.

Indoor Environment: Being at school means your child will have access to a controlled indoor environment, reducing exposure to outdoor pollutants.

Continued Learning: We are committed to providing a high-quality education to your child, and we believe that learning should continue even on challenging days.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We will closely monitor the air quality throughout the day and provide updates as needed. Please be assured that we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. For any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Guidi, Coordinator of Health and Safety, at ext 2045 or Deirdre.Guidi@Alisal.org
